Powerpost Beetle
Powderpost Beetle mainly pierce wood, grains and stored beans, reducing them to dust.
This insect is mostly found in furniture and starts its life inside an egg, which is placed on the surface of the wood. These surfaces have cracks and the egg settles in the cracks until hatching. And there they remain, causing damage.
At this stage, the larva moves close to the surface and builds a chamber that transforms into a chrysalis. Between May and August, adults emerge from their pupal lining and chew their way, leaving behind a trail of “woodworm holes”. While cutting their way to the outside, they do not feed. When they emerge, they mate and lay eggs, often inside old emergency holes, in chambers and tunnels, that is, well below the surface of the wood. Both mating and egg-laying can take place even within the emergency holes themselves.
The damage caused by the woodworm can be quite harmful.
